Portuguese Millipede
Portuguese Millipede
Price range: $162.00 through $297.00
The Portugese Millipede treatment infests and kills Portugese Millipedes adults that live in the soil. Whilst they are mostly a nuisance in their larger numbers, these millipedes can also cause damage to plants, as well as staining carpets and other areas around the house, and tainting rainwater tanks. They omit a foul odour and can burn the skin.
The nematode is strategically released to attack Portuguese millipedes throughout Autumn when numbers are high. These tiny microscopic worms enter the body of the millipede and release a bacteria. This breaks down the millipede’s tissue and the nematodes begin to feed. Importantly, this nematode does NOT affect humans, pets or plants in anyway. Because they are native, they won’t become a pest themselves.
The nematodes are released out wide in the garden area, where they build up in numbers and start effecting the millipede population. The Nematodes are digested by the millipedes which then kill them, and the nematodes then breed to create further generations. When there are sufficient nematodes and the correct conditions, large numbers of millipedes will die providing dramatic decreases in the millipede population.
Best control is achieved by way of annual application for 3-5 years.
Contains: Rhabditis Necromena as infective juveniles.
A seasonal release is best made in Autumn – from April to June.
The millipedes hide during hot months deep in the soil and under objects. Rain in autumn triggers their emergence and they start their migration. They are attracted to light and move towards the house and other occupied areas during this time.
Application in Spring is also suitable when large numbers of newly hatched juveniles can be present during rain periods.
Present in southern Australian states
